Covideos & Covid Paintings
During the COVID_19 Lockdowns Robert Armstrong made a series of short videos which he called Covideos. They were shot in his home in Henrietta Street, Dublin and surrounding area. They range from 1 to 4 minutes in duration and 20 of them were posted on Instagram and YouTube. Kevin Kavanagh Gallery is suitably horrified to present a selection of them on our Viewing Room along with some new paintings derived from Covideo images.

AVAILABLE WORKS
-
Sisyphus: Responding to a One Minute Film Challenge on Instagram he came up with the idea for Sisyphus which didn’t involve actors, used an inanimate object, and presented no social distancing issues. The myth can be seen as a metaphor of desire for escape from lockdown.
-
Waltz: Using stop motion photographs of wicker chairs and waltz music this short covideo from the first lockdown plays with the possibilities of available time and repetitive action in an homage to the dance sequence in Visconti’s The Leopard. Music: Giuseppi Verdi / Nino Rota - Valzer brillante dalla colonna sonora del film Il Gattopardo di Luchino Visconti.
-
2KWalk: During the lockdown the city was all but abandoned to seagulls, street people and Julian Opie’s Walking Figure perpetually strolling outside the closed Hugh Lane Gallery.
-
Halloween Covideo: In this Halloween ghost story the house in Henrietta Street and a vacant apartment were occupied by skittering little covids. Music by Declan McGlade.
-
Intent: Henry Street, one of Dublin's premier shopping streets, became a home to a community of tent dwellers, surviving the cold winter in doorways and under awnings of closed department stores.
