This screening will be followed by a conversation with artist Sean Lynch and curator Mark O’Gorman led by film curator Alice Butler.
The Lighthouse is delighted to present a programme of three artist films curated by Alice Butler as part of Hugh Lane Gallery’s Explore & Learn off site education programme during the gallery’s period of temporary closure. ‘Ghost Work’ is curated around a 2024 video by Sean Lynch, an artist whose work is held in the Hugh Lane Gallery collection. Lynch’s video Banana Accelerationism was made as part of a collaborative exhibition curated by Mark O’Gorman at The Complex in Dublin’s north inner city. Exploring the social and historical nature of the neighbourhood Banana Accelerationism highlights the presence of the nearby medieval St. Mary’s Abbey, delving deep into an archaeological dig led by Edmond O’Donovan, director of excavations for Courtney Deery Heritage Consultancy. Screening with Lynch’s work is Nicolas Gourault’s Their Eyes and Arief Budiman’s Golden Island, two works that also explore how experience of place can be disrupted by technology, borders and language as well as stories of colonialism and capital hiding in plain sight.
