Robert Armstrong is a founding member of Temple Bar Gallery & Studios and was Head of Painting at NCAD from 2002 to 2018. His latest book Robert Armstrong spans over 160 pages. This compelling and highly visual survey takes the reader through the last two decades of the artist’s work from an early painting of the Aeolian islands to recent works in Japanese ink on rice paper, via recurring riffs on Renaissance art. The book is both a documenting of a thoughtful, roguish and untiring engagement with painting and, page by page, an exhilarating and gorgeous experience in its own right. It includes a vivid and incisive essay on Armstrong’s practice by the writer Colm Tóibín and a conversation with art critic Aidan Dunne which delves into an artistic process that rewards contemplation in a world over-saturated with digital imagery.
The first edition will be launched at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery on 20th April 2023 at 6pm with a book signing by the artist.
