Dr. Yvonne Scott in conversation with Geraldine O’Neill has been postponed due to the weather conditions until Saturday 18th at 12 pm.O’Neill’s work is centred on the notion of still life. Her works interweave references from across the spectrum of visual culture, kitsch, fine art, child art, the overlooked and forgotten and detritus of world inhabited by small children as she tries to extend the bounds of still life. In HOROPTER , the images are stark and need to be looked at slowly. In ‘Bird in the Hand’ quite literally she painted the chalk dust – a transitory image taken from a child.  In a multi image age, painting provides her with coherence and a timeless reflection of the world, allowing her to recapture images and to make them sacred.Geraldine O’Neill lives and works in her native Dublin. She studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, where she completed her BFA in fine art in 1993 and in 2008 completed her MFA there. Geraldine has lectured in the fine art department of the Dublin Institute of Technology and in the visual art department in St Patrick’s teacher training college, Drumcondra. She has exhibited extensively in Ireland and her more recent solo was at Draíocht Blanchardstown, Dublin, 2008. Her work is currently on show at the Irish Museum of Modern Art as a part of the Graphic Studio: 50th years in Dublin. Geraldine’s work is represented in many collections, both private and public in Ireland and abroad including the collection of European Central Bank, Arthur Andersen, Bank of Ireland, Haverty Trust, IIU – IFSC House, Microsoft, Office of Public Works, DCU and The National Lottery.
